Campaign expiration
What happens when a campaign's deadline passes without reaching its threshold.
If a campaign does not reach its ticket threshold by the deadline, it expires automatically.
What triggers expiration
Expiration happens when:
- The campaign's deadline date and time have passed.
- The total number of promises is below the threshold.
A scheduled process checks for expired campaigns regularly.
What happens during expiration
- The campaign status changes to expired.
- All active promises are cancelled.
- All saved payment methods are detached from Stripe — no cards are charged.
- Patron emails are sent confirming the campaign expired and no charges were made.
- Producer email is sent with the final promise count versus the threshold.
For patrons
If you made a promise on an expired campaign:
- Your card was not charged.
- Your payment method has been released.
- You don't need to take any action.
Info
Campaign expiration is the safety net of Promise Tickets. It ensures you're never charged for an event that doesn't have enough interest to happen.
For producers
If your campaign expired:
- No patrons were charged and no revenue was collected.
- You can view the final promise count on your dashboard.
- You can create a new campaign at any time if you'd like to try again.
Can expiration be prevented?
The only way to prevent expiration is to reach the threshold before the deadline. Once the deadline passes, expiration is automatic and cannot be reversed.
