What happens to your card
How your payment card is handled when you make a promise — security and timing explained.
When you make a promise on Promise Tickets, your payment card is saved securely through Stripe. Here's exactly what happens and what doesn't.
What happens
- Your card details are submitted directly to Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor used by millions of businesses.
- Stripe saves your card as a payment method attached to a customer record.
- A setup intent is created, which authorizes Promise Tickets to charge the card later if the event is confirmed.
What does NOT happen
- Your card is not charged. No money is taken from your account when you make a promise.
- Promise Tickets never sees your card number. Card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on Promise Tickets' servers.
- No hold is placed on your funds. Unlike some booking services, there is no temporary authorization hold.
When your card is charged
Your card is only charged when both of these conditions are met:
- The campaign reaches its ticket threshold.
- The producer converts the campaign (charges all saved cards).
If either condition is not met — for example, if the campaign expires before reaching its threshold — your card is never charged.
When your card is released
Your saved payment method is released (detached from the system) in these situations:
- You cancel your promise.
- The campaign expires without reaching its threshold.
- Your card is successfully charged during conversion.
Tip
If you're concerned about an upcoming card expiration, you can cancel your current promise and make a new one with an updated card.
