For patrons
Payment method declined
What to do when your card is declined during campaign conversion.
If your card was declined when a campaign converted, here are the common causes and what you can do.
Common reasons for decline
- Expired card — your card passed its expiration date between when you made the promise and when the campaign converted.
- Insufficient funds — your card or account didn't have enough available balance.
- Bank decline — your bank blocked the charge, possibly due to fraud detection.
- Card cancelled or replaced — your card was reported lost/stolen and replaced since you made the promise.
What happens after a decline
- You receive an email explaining that your payment could not be processed.
- Your promise is marked as failed.
- Your tickets are not reserved.
- The campaign still converts for other patrons whose cards went through.
What you can do
Info
Unfortunately, failed charges cannot be retried automatically after conversion. Contact the event producer directly to discuss alternative arrangements.
How to prevent this in the future
- Use a card that won't expire before the campaign's deadline.
- Ensure your account has sufficient funds or credit available.
- If your bank tends to block online charges, contact them to pre-authorize charges from Stripe.
- If your card is about to expire, cancel your current promise and make a new one with an updated card.
